Bite me!

The brain is a funny thing. Well, at least mine is, and it does not belong to the ‘ha ha’ variety (which too many will vouch for). While I don’t always recollect what happened five minutes back, I have a childhood memory of being bitten by Bozo, one of our very first dogs. To be fair, I wasn’t even sure if it was a real memory till I checked. Much to my delight, it turned out to be true.
I think it my ‘pass’ right through school to pet strays. When someone warned me about touching strays (runs in the family) lest I got bitten I would just shrug it off. I had been bitten once and nothing was going to stop me!

But there was a slight problem. Crazy as it may sound, I oft wondered what it really felt like to be bitten. Like I said earlier, being bitten was a faint memory. Someone up there heard me, had a good laugh and humoured my foolish thoughts.

I have the dubious distinction of getting a tiny nick even from Bingo, a saint of a dog. Bingo felt so guilty that he sat in the prayer room as if, to atone for his sins. It was my fault entirely.
And of course I never counted that one as a bite.
So, my wondering continued till the powers there are, were disgusted.

And then I got bitten by Spotty and Rhombi (I wish the scars wouldn’t disappear). And Chutux and Bacchi. And… well, since then I have been caught in the crossfire several times over. But the funniest part is that sometimes the only proof of something having taken place is my hand (which I am might glad about).

I have been given a friendly nip by a very obliging Dinky (the naughtiest, and the sharpest dog we have ever had) just because Ma said, “Bite her toh”. I have been bitten by Dinky pup (a stray with buck teeth like her) while trying to separate a puppy squabble.
Kit-kit our first cat used to wake me up from my slumber by biting my nose and bottom, and duck. No, not because it was meal time but because she just wanted to.

General Dyre (a stray cat)… who visited us for a few hours bit half the family and one of our dogs and I was in the list that had to take anti rabies shots. But, of course I haven’t learnt my lesson. I had to take another set recently because a street dog who wagged his tail didn’t like being petted on the head. And the most disgusting bit is that the prick of the needle left a bigger nick than his bite!
